In view of implementing international best practices in scholarly communication and wishing to contribute actively in the digital convergence of Greece with the rest of Europe in the field of organizing and providing open access to scholarly content, EKT decided to include in its activities the implementation of the following infrastructures:

"Helios"-NHRF's institutional repository - aimed at systematically collecting, organizing and providing access to the scholarly output of the Research Institutes of NHRF
"Pandektis"-Subject repository for the humanities - aimed at providing access to scientifically documented collections of cultural material
Repository of the National Ph.D. Theses Archive - aimed at systematically collecting, organizing, preserving and providing access to Doctoral Theses carried out in Greece or by Greek nationals abroad

All three repositories are fully functional and contain a substantial number of records, many of which openly accessible to all with internet access. EKT has undertaken further work to increase the records in the repositories by introducing more back files in them and by initiating the self-archiving service. Further development is currently undertaken in introducing Web 2.0 functions to the repositories, which will allow multiple uses of their contents and will result in increasing their user basis.
